Australian Bass (Macquaria novemaculeata)
Australian Bass
Natural Range: Eastern coastal streams. Breading occurs in lower brackish/tidal waters close to river mouths over winter and early spring. Once hatched juvenile Bass feed up for a number of months (possibly years) before head upstream. The generally move into to freshwater streams often travelling over one hundreds kilometres upstream to low mountain streams. In the Central Tablelands area Australian Bass are commonly found in the Hawksbury-Nepean River, Colo River, Warragamba River, Erskin Creek and Grose River. At times bass can be found in schools and small groups particularly in the lead up to breading season.
Identification Issues: Often confused with Estuary Perch and Macquarie Perch.
Closed Season (in all rivers and estuaries): 1st June to 31st August.
Stocking: Bass have been stocked to a number of man made water storages across the Central Tablelands including Lake Lyell, Lake Wallace, Penrith Lakes, Glenmore Park Loch and Glenbrook Lagoon (no fishing or boating at Glenbrook Lagoon due to health risk).  When stocked in dams bass tend to live in schools.
Bag & Size Limit: Australian Bass and Estuary Perch combined limit.
Only 1 over 35 cm. 2 fish in total.
Possession Limit: Australian Bass and Estuary Perch combined limit.
Total of 4 in possession (only 1 over 35cm).

Golden Perch (Macquaria ambigua)

Natural Range: The Murray Darling River System (includes the Macquarie and Lachlan River's and their tributaries).
Identification Issues: Easily confused with Macquarie Perch.
Closed Season:  None - Can be taken all year round.
Stocking: Ben Chifley Dam, Burraga Dam, Burrendong Dam, Lake Canobolas, Carcoar Dam, Gosling Creek Reservoir, Dunns Swamp, Rylstone Dam, Windamere Dam, Wyangala Dam and limited river stocking.
Bag & Size Limit: 5 fish, 30cm
Possession Limit: 10

Murray Cod (Maccullochella peelii peelii)
Murray Cod
Natural Range: The Murray Darling River System (includes the Cudgegong, Macquarie, Lachlan and Abercrombie River's).
Identification Issues: Similar appearance to the endangered Trout Cod.
Closed Season:  All inland waters from September to November Inclusive.
Stocking: Dams in the wester watershed of the Central Tablelands such as Wyangala, Windamere, Rylstone, Gosling Creek, Dunns Swamp, Carcoar, Canobolas, Burrendong, Burraga and Ben Chifley Dam's.
Bag & Size Limit: Legal length: 60 cm. Bag limit: 2 (only 1 over 100 cm). 
Possession Limit: 4 (only 1 over 100 cm).

Silver Perch (Bidyanus bidyanus)
Silver Perch
Natural Range: The lower reaches of the Murray Darling River System. Not likely to have been found on the Central Tablelands before stocking.
Identification Issues: Only hard to identify from cod or other perch species in early juvenile stages of life.
Closed waters: Fishing prohibited in all rivers.
Stocking: Ben Chifley Dam, Burraga Dam, Burrendong Dam, Lake Canobolas, Carcoar Dam, Gosling Creek Reservoir, Dunns Swamp, Rylstone Dam, Windamere Dam, Wyangala Dam. Now found in  the Macquarie, Lachlan and Abercrombie Rivers areas probably outside the natural range of this fish.
Bag & Size Limit: 5 in listed stocked dams, 25cm

Macquarie Perch (Macquaria australasica)

PROTECTED
Natural Range:
Cooler fresh water creeks and rivers on the eastern and western side the Great Dividing Range in NSW and Victoria. In the Central Tableland Macquarie Perch can be found in most cooler rivers and streams of the Murray Darling River System & Hawksbury/Nepean River System. Including the Upper Nepean, Colo River, Erskin Creek, Grose River, Warragamba River, Upper Lachlan River, Abercrombie River and Cox's River.
Identification Issues: Similar to Golden Perch and Australian Bass
Closed Season: This fish it totally protected. Any Macquarie Perch caught must be returned to the water. Please help protect this species by not targeting them when you go fishing.
Stocking: Penrith Lakes, Limited River Stockings west of the Great Dividing Range.
They are also found in Wyangala Dam and possibly Lake Lyell.

Natural Range: Wide distribution across the Murray Darling Basin predominantly in slow moving waters (including lagoons, billabong's and man made dams), also found in eastern flowing streams. Found in the Macquarie River, Lachlan River, Abercrombie River, Turon River and Cudgegong River.

Closed Waters: Closed in western rivers and unlisted western dams.
Stocking: NA

Possession Limit: 10 (in eastern dams and listed western dams), 4 (in eastern rivers).
More information: Recorded to 90 cm in length and 6.8 kg in weight, individuals above 2 kg are uncommon.

The Murray Darling River System. In NSW mainly found in the upper reaches of rivers greater 500m above seas level (particularly in the Macquarie, Lachlan and Abercrombie Rivers and tributaries).
Identification Issues: Similar to the two-shined blackfish, juvenile murray and trout cod.
Closed Season: Fishing for River Blackfish is prohibited in all waters in NSW.
