Grose River

The Grose starts its flow near Blackheath in  the Upper Blue Mountains. It is fed by many small creeks within the Blue Mountains National Park and reaches the Nepean River at Yarrumundi Bridge up stream from Richmond.

The upper reaches hold trout and the odd Macquarie Perch (protected). This area of the river is difficult to access and requires a full day bush walk to reach the best waters. Most of the river is within remote wilderness. Multi day lilo fishing trips from Faulconbridge point to the Nepean River junction are possible, but should only be attempted by well prepared groups of experienced bushwalkers.

The lower 2km of river can be reached from the Yarramundi Bridge. The river flows behind the YMCA camp. This area holds Bass, Eel and Mullet in good numbers.

The best fishing in the Grose is in the warmer months with bass being the most common catch. Try casting up against the edge of the bank as the fish hide in the shade along the edges when the sun is high. Use surface lures during flood conditions or on sunset. Jitter Bugs and spinner baits have a proven track record.

Please note: This is not a general trout stream, however the bass closed season applies to all waters except stocked inpondments. See the DPI website for more details.
