Fishers Fish Habitat Forum 2011
The DPI is hosting another Fishers For Fish Habitat Forum. This time it
is being held at Tamworth in May in conjunction with a local carp fish

More Fish For Inland Waters
Following on from recent high water levels on most of our
inland
rivers, lake and dams DPI fish hatcheries have produced and
stocked more than 250,000 fish into a range of inland waterways during
February to enhance recreational fishing opportunities. These stockings
have comprised of 44,000 brown trout fingerling's, 51,250 rainbow trout
fingerling's, 143,000 golden perch fry and 18,000 silver perch fry.
Some
of the major stockings include 49,000 golden perch fry and 18,000
silver perch fry into Lake Windamere, 58,000 golden perch fry into
Wyangala Dam and 20,000 golden perch fry into Lake Cargelligo.
Global Fish Population Decline
Here is a link to an interesting segment from ABC Radio National's "The Science Show"
that went to air this week. It discusses the likelihood fish
populations will declines in our oceans moving towards 2050. Big
fish will be first to go if the projections are accurate.

The DPI has put out the 2011 freshwater fishing guide with

Regulation Changes
There have been some minor changes to NSW Fishing
Regulations. You can find detailed info at the DPI
Website.
Murray Cod Closed Season
It is that time of year again. Murray Cod closed season
has arrived. Cod can not be taken between 1st September and November
31st. The good news is the Bass closed season has now ended.

Bass Sydney Bass Catch
Bass Sydney Fishing
Club is hosting its 23rd Hawkesbury-Nepean Bass catch on 2 weekends
over the coming Bass Season. This event is open to any bass angler
wishing to participate in gathering catch data & other important
information for NSW Fisheries.
You just need to register via the Bass Sydney website which is listed
below http://www.basssydney.com/basscatch/index.php
Registration means you will be issued a catch card as well as
directions to the Bass Sydney camp site at Wilberforce. The Bass catch
will be held on:
16th & 17th October 2010 and 19th & 20th February 2011.
Fishing
& Fun Day at Narrandera
It is a long drive from the Tablelands to
Narrandera but a visit to the hatchery fun day would make the trip
worth while. This is a public event which is free of charge and seeks
to celebrate the social, environmental and economic values of fish to
people in inland NSW. There will be a range of activities which
aim to involve people young and old. Specific attractions include
live fish feeding, research demonstrations, celebrity chef, carnival
rides, camp oven cooking and fishing competitions.

I
would like to apologies to those of you who have tried to email me in
recent days. My ISP (AAPT) say they "accidentally and inadvertently"
disconnected my email account. My broadband connection is still

BASS STOCKED AT WALLERAWANG
The Cox's River at Wallerawang Bridge (next to the power station) has
been stocked with Australian Bass. It is likely the fished were stocked
by Alex Hickson a Wallerawang local who is involved in the local AS and
fishing club. More info will be provided when it is available.

Site Updates
All the "lakes" pages
are now uploaded to the site sorry for leaving them blank for so long. Over the next few months I hope to fill in
most of the other gaps on the site. I will start uploading the last of the
"rivers & streams" pages in the next few days. Some of the existing
pages require more detail, but I probably won't get around to updating
these pages until the second half of 2010.
Australia Day Fishathon
On 26th January as part of Australia Day Celebrations. The
International Regatta Centre at Penrith will host a Fishathon. The
event is free and involves catch and release fishing with barbless

DPI Fishing News
The NSW Department of Primary Industries has released the
2010 Freshwater Fishing Guide. It is a great booklet, with bag and size
limits and detailed info on rules and regulations.

The DPI has been conducting research on catch and release fishing.
While the findings relate predominantly to salt water fishing the
principals are transferable to freshwater fishing for natives and
trout.

In 2010 the DPI will be running a number of kids fishing
workshops. Penrith Lakes will hold one of these workshops. Other
locations to hold workshops include DPI freshwater fish hatcheries
located near Jindabyne, Armidale and Narrandera,
as well as, many coastal locations (including Narrabeen and Cronulla).
