Turon
River
A popular
trout fishery for many years, the Turon is now thick with carp and as a
result the trout can be a bit harder to find. Some sections of the
river still hold some very nice Trout. The upper river holds some
healthy smaller fish and conditions are improving as we move into what
should be a wet weather
cycle. Fingers crossed regular rain keeps coming and conditions
improve!!!
The lower river has a few
reserves you can camp at and native fish can be taken in this section
of the river. Please release protected species such as trout cod, river
blackfish, macquarie perch and silver perch (which are off limits in
streams) if you come across them. You stand a chance of getting a
murray cod or golden perch in the lower reaches. The Macqurie River is
worth a look while in the area.
Williwa Creek which feeds the
Turon is also worth a look if you are chasing trout. It starts flowing
near Portland and winds its way along the eastern edge of Sunny Corner
State Forest and then descends to the Turon through farmland.
